Linn Foster (they/them) is a queer and non-binary author, poet, and artist who primarily writes equally queer fantasy, science fiction, and romance, some of which they publish under Linn Silver. They might also be a werewolf.

Linn holds a BFA in Creative Writing from the University of Central Oklahoma, where they were one of the few to be awarded the honor of Best Presentation at Symposium for their poetry, as well as a creative scholarship for their fiction. They also served as head editor of fiction and editor of poetry at UCO's literary magazine, the New Plains Review, for two years, and were a member of the editing staff for the Central Dissent, a magazine focused on gender and sexuality.

Linn's poetry has been published in literary magazines like Cirque and presented across Oklahoma. After graduating, they chose to independently publish all their prose. Their first novel, Iron Spirit, was published in August of 2024 and their second novel, Between You, Me, and the Moonlit Sea, releases this year.

developmental editing

Developmental editing, sometimes referred to as a manuscript critique, is for addressing plot structure, character development, worldbuilding, and the like. This is the type of edit you want to get if you're concerned with the big picture of your work, as well as the more conceptual parts. As the name implies, it's about developing your story, as opposed to grammar or mechanics.

$0.025 per word.

Your developmental edits will include in-document comments, which are provided either in Google Docs or a Word document, depending on your preference, as well as a full editorial letter that will provide bigger picture feedback for the work as a whole.

There is a $50 minimum charge for this service. Orders of $150 or more qualify for a payment plan, which we will work out while negotiating the details of the service.

line & copy editing

Line editing focuses on the fine details of your novel, such as voice, clarity and readability, tense consistency, showing versus telling, and more. Our line edits include light copyediting, which covers spelling, punctuation, grammar, and mechanics. A line edit aims to maintain your author voice while also improving your work on a line-by-line level.

$0.020 per word.

Your line edits will include in-document comments, which are provided either in Google Docs or a Word document, depending on your preference, as well as an editorial letter. Copyedits will be made directly to the document with the Suggestion feature for Google Docs or Track Changes with Microsoft Word.

proofreading

Proofreading is the final step of the editing process, the final piece before your book goes to publication. A proofread ensures that your manuscript is properly formatted and catches any typos that slipped through the copy edit.

$0.010 per word.

Corrections will be made directly to the document. You can choose to have them done through Google Docs with the Suggestion feature or Microsoft Word with Track Changes active.

sensitivity reading

A sensitivity reader evaluates your manuscript for language, character portrayal, traits, plot points, or similar that may be problematic or less than ideal. If you're concerned with being respectful to a character outside of your lived experience, a sensitivity reader might be right for you.

What I will provide sensitivity reading for includes:

• Neurodivergency, with a focus on Bipolar Disorder, PTSD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and AuDHD.
• Chronic illness, with a focus on permanent injury.
• Trans experience, binary or nonbinary.
• Queer experience.
• Being fat in society.

$3.00 per 1,000 words.

Your sensitivity read will include in-document comments, which are provided either in Google Docs or a Word document, depending on your preference, as well as a full letter that will provide bigger picture feedback for the work as a whole.

Please note, I will only speak on things I feel qualified to, so if the character(s) involve multiple traits you feel require a sensitivity reader and I don't cover all those traits, I cannot provide a full read of that character. Always pick a reader that fits best for your project.

additional services

Rush Service: +$0.010 per word.

Need your job done in a short period of time? You can request rush services for an additional fee. This will prioritize your manuscript on my schedule. Exact timeline details will be worked out in negotiations.

Voice Chat: +$50

This service is offered in tandem with whatever other services you order. For up to 60 minutes we can discuss whatever you like concerning your project and the services I'm providing for it. This chat is conducted over Discord or Zoom.

editing wish list & won't list

What I love to edit:

Science-fantasy works of all types.
Romance of all types and genres.
Queer characters, particularly trans or nonbinary.
Queer-normative worlds.
Stories involving mythical creatures.

This is not an exhaustive list. If your work doesn't feature any of these things I will still happily work on it, provided it doesn't meet any of the criteria on my "won't list."

What I won't work on:

Anything with a romance plot or subplot where one character is a minor (17 or younger) while the other is an adult (18 or older.)

Anything explicit involving characters who are minors (17 or younger.)

Anything pro-fascism, pro-Zionism, pro-racism, pro-sexism, or anti-LGBTQIA+.

the process

Interested in working with me and curious how it'll go? Here is a step by step explanation of the entire process.

1st: contact me

Once you've decided what service(s) you'd like to order, contact me via the form provided in the "Contact Me" section. This is completely free. I will email you back with a quote for the service(s) you selected and will answer any questions you provided. You should hear back from me within two business days. If I am unable to get your full consultation to you within that time, I will email you to let you know and provide a follow-up date for when to expect it.

You may request a sample edit of the first five pages of your manuscript during this part as well, or first two pages if it's a short story. This service is also completely free.

2nd: review your sample edit

If you chose to utilize this part of your consultation, I will return your sample edit to you via Google Docs or as a Word document, depending on your preference. Take some time to go over the edits I made and see if I am a good fit for you and your project.

3rd: sign your contract & pay

Once you accept the quote and timeline for the service(s) chosen based on your consultation and sample edit, if you chose to do one, I'll email you a contact and send a deposit invoice via PayPal. You can sign this contract electronically, or print it and sign in pen, then scan or take a photo of it to send back to me. You will also pay your deposit.

4th: full edits & feedback

I will begin editing your manuscript on the date we agreed to. When I finish my work, I will email you either a Google Docs link or a Word document, depending on your preference. It will contain all my comments and/or changes and suggestions. You will also be provided a separate document that contains your editing letter. This letter covers the "big picture" stuff of the edit. For developmental edits, this includes strengths of the manuscript, opportunities for improvement, suggestions, questions, and recurring things I noticed that might warrant change. For line edits, this will include recurring things that might warrant correction, and address things like flow.

5th: follow-up conversation

If you have any questions or wish to discuss something in your edits and edit letter, you are free to contact me to do so and I will answer them or provide what information and context I can. This part of the process can last as long as you need, but if you require additional editing beyond this point, it will involve an additional charge.

6th: repeat the process or part ways

If you would like to purchase additional services from me, we will discuss that here. If not, we will say our goodbyes and consider this transaction completed.

f.a.q.

Have a question that isn't covered here? Email me (linn@linnfoster.com) or message me via the "Contact Me" form.

Do you publish client work?

No, at this time I only publish my own work. My services do not include publication.

Can I contact you before my manuscript is finished?

Yes, absolutely. In fact, it's a good idea to book in advance if you can, as it gets you on my calendar and makes sure you have a spot. Additionally, I will provide edits for unfinished work, if you want to submit what you already have done and finish the rest later.

Please provide your best estimate of what you think your final word count will be, and if it turns out to be more than that we'll renegotiate the price and timeline.

Do you have a refund policy?

If I have not started your edit, I can refund 75% of your payment. If I have started your edit, I can refund 50% of your payment for anything under half of the manuscript and 25% for anything over half. If I completed your edit and sent it to you, I will not issue a refund.

Do you retain any rights to my manuscript?

No I do not. All rights to your work belong to you and I take no ownership of it during this process.

Can I contact you and other editors at the same time?

Yes. I encourage you to shop around and choose the editor you feel best fits your project.
